Dear Families,
It’s that time again! Conferences are quickly approaching! There are two sign-up options: 1. Click on this link to sign up online: http://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Woodla nd_Elementary_School 2. Call the main office and ask to sign up for a conference in Mrs. Housman’s class. The office phone number is 763-315-6400. Mrs. Yunger (our secretary) will let you know the available times. Office hours are 8-4:30. Please try to sign up for a date and time that you know you will be able to attend. Spaces are limited for rescheduling. If you have not signed up by Thursday, January 29th, I will assign you a conference time with remaining slots and send home a confirmation. I look forward to meeting with you again!!! Thank you, Liz Housman Today we participated in an all school service project for Gillette Hospital. We made cards and colored the "best picture of our lives!" ;) What a great way to teach selfless deeds. They were SO excited to make these cards without getting anything in return. Take a peek at these cuties working so hard...
We had a fabulous time at The Children's Theater today! The Grinch was a spectacular show and the kids loved every second of it! They were wonderful audience members as well. Thank you for supporting these special days! :)
Calling all winter coats, snow pants, boots, hats and gloves! Time to dust off last season's warm winter clothing to see if it still fits! We have snow! All children will go outside unless the nurse has a doctor's note for an illness or it is determined to be too cold (wind chill). Help your kiddo have a fabulously fun recess in the snow by checking that they have all of their winter gear! Also, please label all things with their name so they can be returned if lost. Thanks!
Woodland is hosting our annual Bingo and Silent Auction Night. Every year classrooms put together baskets to auction off to raise money for the PTO. The money raised goes to support our children and their education at Woodland. The PTO supports technology, music, reading, recess supervision, math, and many other programs at WD! Our classroom has chosen a theme for our basket and we are very excited to work together to have fun and raise funds for Woodland. We are asking each child to bring a new item that reflects our chosen theme or donate money to purchase items. Donations will be collected in our classroom from Monday, November 3rd through Thursday, November 20th. Please send your item and, if possible, one dollar to help purchase a basket or container for our theme. If the container is donated, we will use the money to purchase ‘final touches’ for the basket. Please notify us if you are able to donate this container.
The theme for our room is: Family Fun Night games, activities, movies, candy, popcorn, bottled soda, gift cards for pizza, sub sandwiches, Dave and Busters, Chuck-E-Cheese, Michaels Craft Store, BINGO, LEGOS, Movie tickets, Tickets to an event, fun socks, puzzles, a football, book, electronics, video games, music, dance… If you are able to donate any additional items for the auction or for Bingo prizes, it would be greatly appreciated. All items must be new. You could donate tickets for sports or theaters, gift certificates for movie theaters, stores, or entertainment venues, craft items, or any other items. These donations can become part of a larger basket, added to another class or a basket of their own or used as a Bingo prize. Feel free to create your own basket for the auction! Perhaps your employer would donate a basket? Thank you for your participation and your support! Questions? Contact Jennifer Orsen Email: [email protected] or call 952-356-2420 Wow, I can't believe it is the last week of October already! We have officially wrapped up conferences. It was fabulous sitting down with you and discussing your child and their goals for first grade. THANK YOU for attending and supporting our partnership! Please always feel free to contact me if you have questions.
We are working hard on choosing good fit books to help us increase our reading fluency and comprehension. Ask your child how they choose a good fit book! They can probably even show you how we do a 5-finger test. We are also focusing on asking and answering questions while we read as well as finding the main idea and details in books! Our Thursday homework will now revolve around the weekly reading strategy. All reading groups are up and running! Your child will meet with me in a small group each week to work at their instructional level on a text. We are working hard on using the step by step story problem strategies in order to solve both addition and subtraction story problems. We have also been working hard on explaining our problem solving and extending our thinking when possible. We have been busy observing our butterflies and mealworms in science. We will begin planting and learning about the plant life cycle soon. We are gearing up for our fall party on November 7th! We would love any volunteers that are wanting to attend! We ask that you complete the yellow sign-up that went home last week by November 4th so we can get volunteer forms to you to fill out before the party (protocol). A reminder that we do not dress up in Halloween costumes or bring candy to share (tempting though...;) this week. Enjoy the little bit of warm weather we have left! ~Mrs. Housman Thank you to those that participated in the Fun Run Fundraiser and raised money to support our school! Check out the first graders that raised the most money running in our "Run of Champions!" You can see it was a big deal. :)
