Your children are reading more now than ever and to keep that momentum going you will need to continue a daily reading routine at home that can carry on through the summer. Please help your child remember to do their homework and reading each night so your routine can easily transition into the summer months. I cannot emphasize enough how important summer reading is to maintain growth for our beginning readers! Though it is so tempting to skip homework on these lovely evenings, help your child resist temptation by dedicating time in your schedules for homework and reading to be completed each night.
Remember to vary the reading a bit by reading to your child while they follow along, allowing them to read independently to build their stamina, and asking them to read out loud to build fluency. Give them time to use their decoding and reading strategies to read unknown words before they are given. Comprehension is also very important so don't forget to ask your child questions about the stories they are reading before, during, and after reading. Thank you for your support and commitment to helping your child continue to learn and grow!
